Apply for a Program

Once you have started an application following the Start an Application procedure, you will go through the following phases:

  1. Advising (for long-term programs)
  2. Pre-Decision
  3. Post-Decision
  4. While Abroad
  5. Returnee

Prior to meeting with an International Education staff member, complete the advising application found here. Make an appointment for a personal advising session. To schedule an appointment, login to ECconnect, then select career center, appointments, schedule an appointment.

Pre-Decision Phase
During this phase, you gather all the materials noted on your ECabroad page. You must submit all materials and questionnaires by the stated application deadline to guarantee that your application will be considered.

Post-Decision Phase
After the decision date stated in the program brochure, you will be notified via e-mail when a decision has been made on your application. You will then need to log in to see the status of your application. You will be able to view your decision letter, which will state one of these application statuses:

  • Approved
  • Nominated by Elmhurst College
  • Accepted by Host Institution
  • Not Approved
  • Wait List
Your decision letter will explain the meaning of the status pertaining to you. If you are approved, you will be asked to commit to the program by clicking the "Commit" button. This means that you are accepting your placement. After this point, you may not withdraw your application unless you have talked with your program coordinator. You must commit to a program before your financial aid and registration will be processed for your study abroad experience.

In addition, all students approved to study away will be required to complete any post-decision questionnaires and material submissions before departing on the program.
While Abroad Phase
You can access ECabroad during your study away experience to make journal entries, update your travel information, or contact the Office of International Education. Your parents can also access the site to receive up-to-the-minute updates on any travel alerts or warnings that might be posted for your study site.
Returnee Phase
During this phase, you will be able to log in to evaluate the program. Your program coordinator may also post information on dealing with reverse culture shock and returnee events.
